About

Hello and welcome to ChemFAQs! You may be thinking, “I’m not a chemist….so I’m going to go ahead and leave.” Well don’t worry about it! This blog is dedicated to curious individuals with little or not knowledge of chemistry. At ChemFAQs, we explain everything from non-stick pans to cutting-edge chemical research in terms that everyone can understand! (Hence our snazzy slogan “Chemistry. Translated.”)

Biographies:

Thomas "Andy" McTeague is a current first year graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Chemistry Department. More specifically, he is pursuing his PhD in Organic Chemistry in the lab of Professor Tim Jamison. Andy spent his undergraduate career at Trinity College working under Prof. Timothy Curran for three years. There he researched the use of metal complexes and organometallic compounds as conformational constraints for short peptide strands. You can find excerpts of his work as well as his College Senior Thesis here.

Spencer Shinabery is also a first year chemistry graduate student at MIT. He is working toward his PhD in Organic Chemistry in the lab of Professor Steve Buchwald. As an undergraduate, Spencer was awarded a summer research fellowship by the American Chemical Society's Division of Organic Chemistry for his work on visible light photocatalysis under the guidance of Assistant Professor Nan Zheng at the University of Arkansas. A short article on his work can be found here.
